Offering for Universities

We provide lecturers for universities - available at standard conditions for the defined ECTS points of your institution.

We want to enable you to experience education without the limitation of physical learning places and legacy structures. We provide what's needed:

  • live teacher, trainer, experts and actors - as required in each session
  • learning content in 2D (web) and 3D (virtual world) - co-created by the learners
  • online support and technical infrastructure

We offer a large number of topics and modules that have proven successful in educational practice:

  • different languages (English, French, Italian, ... Chinese, ... Czech, Hungarian, ...)
  • different objectives (for business, literature, skill-upgrade, ...)
  • different methods (project-based, role-play, game-based, field trips, ...)

You only need to manage the enrollment and provide some local support for your students - the rest is ours. We are happy to develop additional topics without additional cost.

Example: Business English in Second Life

We have been teaching Business English in various higher education institutions for 3 years.

Our approach is blended-learning consisting of both presence-sessions as well as live-online-sessions in Second Life?. This is supplemented by materials provided in Moodle, our web-based learning-management system.

Our students work in small groups together with a language trainer. They work on a concrete project that is of relevance to their life and/or their studies. This project is the "red thread" leading through the whole course. Each session takes them one step further: We start by choosing a topic of their interest; then they need to team up and distribute the roles within the team; pitch their idea to an investor to gain funds for production, ... and maybe even ultimately produce their product by using the economy of Second Life. In addition to role-plays (often with actors), games, fieldtrips and group-work, each session has a business language focus, e.g. language for discussions, for job interviews or for presentations.

Our students like the authentic atmosphere of the immersive virtual environment and the project work with their team. The language trainer becomes more of a moderator and facilitator and concentrates on giving feedback to the students about the language they use.

Topics:

  • production of a movie (some examples: Little Red Riding HoodGranny)
  • developing a business in Second Life
  • business plan challenge for real world business
  • business presentation
  • ... coming up next (FH Hagenberg, course starting April 2010): Prototyping a social activity in Second Life
